Search Tips & Tricks
Below are a few tips & tricks to help you get the results you are looking for from the God Morning Search engine. To effectively use the search engine you must remember a few points.
  • First, queries are searched for based on characters and not words. For example, a search for 'ark' will result in all studies that contain the three letters 'a' 'r' and 'k' right beside each other. Results will range from "ark" to "dark" to "Mark" etc.
  • The second pointer is, for a phrase search, or even just a more specific search, you must put your search criteria in quotes (ex. "ark of"). If you were to type 'ark of' without the surrounding double quotes, you would have results for every study containing either the three character string 'ark' OR the two character string 'of'. This might not be what you are looking for, and will result in several studies being found (because almost all of them contain the string 'of'). Double quotes can eliminate this problem, and will lead to fewer, more accurate results. Double quotes can also eliminate our problem of finding words like "dark" and "Mark" when we only want "ark". We can precede 'ark' with a blank space (" ark") to find all the times 'ark' is used all by itself (meaning it isn't part of another word). Remember, with quotes, you must be exact. A search for "Matt 6:33" will not find anything, but a search for "Matt. 6:33" will get you what you want (because that is how it is found within the studies).
  • Finally, after the Search Engine returns your results, you can use the built in "Find (on This Page)... function of Internet Explorer to go right to where your results were on the study. To do this, click on the link on the returned search page to go to the resulting study. With the browser displaying the study, click on the top "Edit" button and go down to "Find (on This Page)..." option. This will pull up a search box that should help you go right to what you are looking for.
